Social Skills: The hidden treasure of motherhood for professional success - Part II

A few days ago, we started talking about the personal skills that develop during motherhood and are of great value to companies, from self-awareness and discipline to patience or resilience.

We then went on analyzing social skills, and today we continue with them. As we have been doing, we will examine how these skills develop in the family context and how they can be successfully applied in the workplace to enhance the personal and professional growth of mothers.

Remember that the other day we talked about social adaptability, assertiveness, understanding, and effective communication. The rest of the skills for us would be:

Empathy:

It is the ability to understand and share the feelings and experiences of others, putting oneself in their place and showing compassion. During parenting, mothers show empathy towards their children by recognizing and validating their emotions, which strengthens the emotional bond and mutual trust. In the workplace, empathy facilitates collaboration, promotes mutual understanding, and improves interpersonal communication, contributing to a healthier and more productive work environment.

Active listening:

It is the ability to fully and genuinely pay attention to what another person is saying, showing interest, understanding, and empathy. During parenting, active listening is practiced by being present and available for children, listening to their concerns and needs attentively and receptively. In the workplace, active listening enhances interpersonal communication, strengthens work relationships, and helps to effectively resolve problems.

Conflict resolution:

It is the ability to identify, address, and resolve disputes peacefully and constructively, seeking solutions that meet the needs of all parties involved. In parenting, mothers teach their children strategies to resolve conflicts fairly and equitably, promoting open communication and mutual commitment. In the workplace, conflict resolution is essential to maintain a harmonious and productive work environment, as well as to promote collaboration and team cohesion.

Respect:

It is the consideration and recognition of the dignity, rights, and individual differences of others. In parenting, it is essential to teach the value of self-respect and respect towards others, fostering tolerance and acceptance of diversity. In the workplace, respect promotes an inclusive and respectful work environment, where the contribution of each person is valued and recognized, regardless of their differences.

There are many reasons why people's social skills are essential in a work environment, but we could summarize it by saying that these skills contribute to creating a positive and productive work environment, where trust, respect, and collaboration are fostered.

👉 So when asked about your strengths, don't forget about all these skills we've mentioned. Which ones do you identify with the most? Which ones would you add?
