Social Skills: The hidden treasure of motherhood for professional success - Part I

A few days ago, we talked about the personal skills that develop and improve during motherhood and child-rearing, from self-awareness and self-control to patience and resilience.

Today, we'll dive into the world of social skills, which play a crucial role both in parenting and in the workplace. From effective communication to empathy, these skills relate to the ability to interact, communicate, and relate effectively with other people in different social contexts. They are essential for building strong relationships and promoting a positive work environment.

Social skills relate to the ability to interact, communicate, and relate effectively with other people in different social contexts.

Let's get started!

Social adaptability:

It is the ability to adjust and navigate successfully in different social and cultural contexts. During parenthood, mothers interact with a variety of people, such as their partners, other families, or education and healthcare professionals, adapting their behavior and communication as necessary to maintain positive and effective relationships. In the workplace, social adaptability allows for effective collaboration with colleagues from different cultures and backgrounds, as well as working in diverse teams and changing environments.

Assertiveness:

Understanding:

It is the ability to understand and accept the emotions, thoughts, and perspectives of others, even when they differ from one's own. During parenthood, mothers show understanding towards their children by actively listening to their concerns and viewpoints, strengthening emotional connection and mutual trust. In the workplace, understanding facilitates collaboration and teamwork while promoting an inclusive and respectful work environment.

Effective communication:

It is the ability to convey messages clearly, accurately, and understandably, both verbally and non-verbally. In parenting, effective communication is necessary when speaking to young children in a clear and understandable manner and when using body language and facial expressions to reinforce the message. In the workplace, effective communication is essential for sharing ideas, conveying important information, and maintaining strong and productive professional relationships.
