How motherhood strengthens your work skills - Part I
We've dedicated the last few blog articles to talk about the skills that develop during motherhood and parenting, and the value this represents, or should represent, for women's professional lives. We started with personal skills (you can find the first part of the article here and the second here). Then, we analyzed social skills (you can find the first part of the article here and the second here).
And today, finally, we arrive at the skills we've labeled as professional because they are more directly related to the typical activities of project management.
Shall we begin?
Financial Management:
This skill involves the ability to effectively manage available financial resources, such as budgets, expenses, and investments. During parenting, families must manage their finances to cover the needs of all members, plan for the future, and make responsible financial decisions. In the professional world, financial management is essential for companies and organizations as it allows for optimizing the use of financial resources, maximizing profitability, and ensuring long-term financial stability.
Stress Management:
It's the ability to handle and effectively control stress in difficult or challenging situations. During parenting, mothers face a variety of stressful situations, such as lack of sleep, parenting challenges, and daily demands, providing them with the opportunity to develop skills to manage stress healthily. In the workplace, stress management is crucial for maintaining calm and concentration in pressure situations, as well as promoting emotional well-being and mental health.
Time Management:
It's the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and activities to efficiently use available time. During parenting, multiple responsibilities and commitments must be balanced, allowing mothers and fathers to develop skills to manage time effectively. In the professional world, time management is fundamental for meeting deadlines and objectives, maximizing productivity, and reducing work-related stress.
Leadership and Decision Making:
These skills involve the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide others toward achieving common goals and objectives, as well as making informed and effective decisions in various situations. During parenting, mothers and fathers take on leadership roles by providing guidance and support to their children, allowing them to develop leadership and decision-making skills. In the workplace, these skills are essential for leading teams, solving problems, and achieving successful outcomes.
Negotiation:
It's the ability to reach mutually satisfactory agreements through effective communication and seeking solutions that benefit both parties. During parenting, mothers and fathers negotiate with each other or with their children to set boundaries and resolve conflicts peacefully, helping them develop negotiation skills. In the professional world, negotiation is key to reaching business agreements, resolving disputes, and managing professional relationships effectively.
